Time to Meet Your Sitter
Pre-Meeting
Please take time to review the sitter’s profile; check out their reviews and message any questions you may have prior to hiring. You can even ask for references. We recommend that you ask questions that are important to you and your family. Discuss any specialized training/education in childcare that the sitter has obtained.
Build Rapport
Take time to get to know your sitter. Possibly, meet the sitter in person at a public place for a trail run, see them in action. Our ShortRun Care would be ideal for this purpose. Ask questions and talk about your family.
Set Expectations
Communication is key! Discuss your expectations and provide clear instructions for your sitter. Give the sitter a tour of your home. Introduce the sitter to your family. Take the time to discuss need-to-know information about your family.
Safety
Always remain mindful of your family’s safety and privacy when hiring anyone for a job. If you feel uncomfortable or experience a situation with your sitter that you deem unacceptable, please feel free to reach out to our support team.

Profile photos will help members within the Backupz community identify you or your family. Remember, profile photos will often be the first impression a member will have about you. Make a great first impression, you deserve it!
Backupz will review all profile photos within the community for approval and notify members that have not received approval. Please ensure your personal safety and privacy when uploading a photo, remember your profile photo will/can be viewed by members within the Backupz community.

What is the max number of children per sitter
Due to safety and quality concerns a single sitter within our community is authorized to provide care for a maximum of four children. Request that exceeds limit will require a second sitter.
Backupz Memberships
Backupz offers three premium membership options, which includes our monthly (1 month), quarterly (3 Months) and Biannual (6 months). All membership subscriptions will renew, until canceled, please keep in mind that we do not offer refunds

Remove reviews from profile
You will not be able to remove or hide reviews written for you. Backupz routinely checks and reads reviews . Backupz will have sole discretion to remove a written review that’s deemed inappropriate or unacceptable in our community.
Edit Reviews
You will not be able to edit reviews that are written about you, nor reviews you’ve written about other members within the Backupz community.
Backupz Messaging
We recommend that all members use the message feature within their Dashboard, whenever communicating. Using the message feature allows Backupz to manage and respond to inappropriate language and behavior. We strongly encourage members to communicate through the messaging feature, until comfortable enough to exchange contact information and communicate externally. However, Backupz will not address issues that arise outside of our community.
Profile Approval
Each profile will be reviewed prior to approval within the Backupz community. Your profile will be hidden, if it doesn’t meet our standards and/or your membership has expired. In order for your profile to remain active, please maintain an active membership, accept community terms and ensure your profile photo meets our standards.
Report Concerns
Anytime you’re in need of assistance or just want to report, please click the Report Concerns tab within your Dashboard to report all concerns, questions and/or incidents.
How are rates determine
You create the price in your listing. There is a chance that the rate may not be favorable, nor accepted by the sitters. We ask that you consider adjusting the rate to a more competitive rate to attract sitters to your job.
Are sitters expected to clean
Yes and No-Sitters are responsible for cleaning up after any and all activities that were created for the sole purpose of the job. Sitters are not responsible for cleaning areas that are unrelated to activities performed with child/ren.
Is Backupz in my area
Backupz is only available in the state of Wisconsin at this time. Currently, we’re providing care for the following Milwaukee South West and South Shore cities listed below:

Can my sitter pick up my child/ren
No. Backupz does not authorize sitters to drive, nor transport child/ren.
Last minute changes
Please reach out to your sitter. Your sitter has complete control whether to continue or withdraw from the job. If your sitter cancels, due to the change you will be charged a cancellation fee.
Meet sitter prior to job
We recommend that you include additional time in your listing, or simply use our ShortRun care feature.
What not to expect from sitters
Sitter are not expected to clean your home, laundry, run errands, make deliveries, give baths or showers to child/ren. Sitters are not authorized to give medication to child/ren.
What is pre-authorize pickup
Please provide the name(s) and relationship of any pre-authorize individual(s) that your sitter will/can release child/ren to upon departure of the sit other than yourself. Please include this information in your Dashboard and listing. It is prohibited for your sitter to release your child/ren to any unauthorized persons, whether family or friends.
** All pre-authorize individuals MUST show a valid ID upon arrival before child/ren can be released from sit. The name displayed on the listing for the pre-authorize individuals’ has to match the name shown on their ID
I went over my scheduled time
We understand that situations can happen, which may cause you to go over your scheduled time, please reach out to your sitter. Sitter will do their best to accommodate your request. You will be responsible to pay the sitter for the additional hours at the same hourly rate.
What is Standard Care
Standard Care is a feature that allows families to create listings for childcare between 3 to 8 hours.
I'm home earlier than expected
You will be charged for the full amount of your original listing price. Please pay the sitter the full amount listed.
Membership Support
Membership fees cover Backupz costs to run our platform, support recruit, interview, and onboard sitters, as well as provide support during sits.
What is ShortRun Care
ShortRun Care is an additional way for you to receive care outside of our Standard Care 3 hour minimum. Use Backupz Short Run feature when you’re in need of care for a short period of time, which is between 1 hr-2.5 hours.
Ideal for Short Runs
Short Runs are ideal for grocery runs, errands, appointments as well as movie dates. You could also use Short Runs to get to know your sitter, see them in action!
Recurring Job
A recurring job is a listing that occurs repeatedly for your family. Recurring jobs will only last for 2 to 4 weeks at a given time, afterwards you will have to create a new recurring listing in order to continue to use the option.
How does the rating system work
After each completed job the sitters as well as the families will rate their experience, which is located within the dashboard. Your overall rating is an average of the past ten jobs. Members whose average drops below our standard 4.5 rating will have their account reviewed, which could lead to removal from the Backupz community. Backupz wants to ensure that all members have a good experience within the community.
Once your account has been removed from the Backupz community, the removal decision is irreversible.
Member Removal
Backupz has complete discretion as it pertains to removing a member from the community. Being removed from the platform usually occur due to one of these reasons, but not limited to:
- Unacceptable behavior
- Canceled Membership
- Overall rating has dropped below our standart(4.5)
- Insufficient funds to cover membership fees
- Cancellations
Removal from the Backupz community is no way a reflection on your individual character, general reputation, personal characteristics or mode of living. Please keep in mind that we do not provide refunds or credits whether personal or Backupz decision for removal.
Before sitters are approved to join our community, they’re required to clear a background check, which has to be completed annually in order to maintain their active status with the Backupz community. Sitters are required to purchase their own background check. Background check annual renewal is one year from the membership purchase date. Background checks are processed by our third party vendor Certn. Certn dates back 7 years in accordance with federal law and the industry standard for background check lookback periods and includes:
- County Criminal Search(Current)
- ID Verification
- National Criminal Search (Standard)
- Sex Offender Search
- Federal Statewide Criminal Search*
- Global Watchlist
- SSN Trace
We’ve begun the first step in creating a safe community, ultimately it’s up to you as members to vet and hire/work with each other. Background checks are not 100% carefree, though ensuring a safe community is of the utmost importance to Backupz. Please remain mindful of your safety as well as your family. Backupz will not share background check information with families. However, the sitter is able to access their background check information and can share with families based on their discretion.

My sitter canceled
We understand that situations can and will occur in life that will require us to make adjustments. In the case that a sitter has canceled. Please select another sitter.
Can I cancel my request
Yes, you can cancel your request for free up to 24 hours prior to the start time of your booking. Cancellations that occur less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time will incur cancellation fees.
How do I cancel my request
Simply log into your Dashboard under the Fulfilled Listings tab. Select the listing you would like to cancel, provide a reason for cancellation then submit. The cancellation will notify Backupz as well as your sitter.
What are the cancellation fees
Cancellation fees are as followed:
$30 -Cancellation after a job has started
$20 -Cancellation within 1 hour of job start time
$10 -Cancellation between 2hr to 23 hrs of the start time.
Cancel membership
Yes, you can cancel your membership at any time. Please note that Backupz will not credit nor refund, due to cancellation. Once your account has been canceled, billing will stop and your account will be hidden in the platform.
Backupz does not get involved in the hiring process or monetary preference between members. It’s important to agree on the terms of payment (rate and form) up front. Members are responsible for paying based on agreed-upon rate and form of payment.
Sitter will select their preferred payment method in their Dashboard. Parents will be able to view this information when selecting a sitter in the detail tab. The family is expected to pay the sitter their preferred payment method during or at the completion of the job.
Failure to pay the sitter the agreed upon rate whether intentionally or unintentionally will result in the family account being reviewed and possibly removed from the Backupz community. We will notify you via email to correct this situation with your sitter.
Payment arrangements are made between families and sitters. Therefore, local and state minimum wage laws do not apply to sitters within the Backupz community, as Backupz does not employ sitters.
However, Backupz does honor the federal minimum wage and therefore will not allow families to post listings below $8/hr for either Standard Care nor less than $10 for our ShortRun Care.
Does Backupz withhold taxes
Backupz does not withhold taxes. Backupz is a platform for families to connect with local childcare professionals, we’re not an agency. For this reason, we do not employ sitters in any way. Members are responsible for all applicable taxes, withholding or reporting obligations. Consequently, Backupz does not provide W2’s, 1099s, unemployment benefits nor provide tax assistance to members. We encourage members to consult with their tax advisor. In case it’s helpful for tax purposes, we encourage all members to consider using electronic payment methods in order to track their transaction history.
How are memberships managed
Backupz uses the payment platform Stripe to manage membership subscriptions.
Backupz Fees
No, Backupz does not charge, nor deduct any fees from our members. You will notice a WI sale tax charge during membership checkout.
Can I pay in cash
Yes, please review the sitter’s payment preference prior to approving/accepting a sitter for your listing.
